SYLVIA PASKARUK

Obituary of SYLVIA PASKARUK

With much sadness the family of Sylvia Paskaruk announces her death after a long period of illness.  Her children were at her side as her life ebbed away.

Sylvia was the 5th child born to her parents in the town of Dauphin, Manitoba.  The family farm in Ukraina (near Dauphin) was where Sylvia learned to cook, bake, care for younger siblings and work hard.  That work ethic continued throughout her life.  She enjoyed working until her retirement at age 85.  Sylvia moved to Winnipeg early on where she met Frank Paskaruk who would become her husband.  They met in a dance hall and throughout the years whenever they danced together it was poetry in motion.  They married in July of 1955 and began a family soon after.  They welcomed Wayne, Debbie, Tim, Larry, Jim and Phillip.

Sylvia thrived on family gatherings, looking after grandchildren and eventually great grandchildren, and her work at Scott Bathgate (Nutty Club).  Her perogies were the best, along with a host of traditional Ukrainian delicacies that she freely shared.

Sylvia and Frank loved travelling, especially to the US.  They enjoyed casinos, playing cards, bowling, and visiting family.  She loved talking about ‘the good old days’—the life she and her siblings had on the farm.  There were many adventures and misadventures!  One of the biggest thrills of her life was going to Nova Scotia and then travelling south to Nashville when she was 84.

The family is grateful to Tim and Maureen who have been looking after Mom for a number of years, but in particular in the last few months.  We are grateful to those in the health system who have helped as Mom’s life came to an end.

Sylvia is predeceased by her beloved Frank, her parents Nick and Anne Rewniak, siblings Peter, David, Walter, Orest, Melvin, Fred, Carl, Rose, Margaret and Sonia.

Sylvia is survived by her children: Wayne (Joanne), Debbie (Brendan), Tim (Maureen), Larry (Kathy), Jim (Abby) and Phillip (Lori); 18 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren; and sister Elizabeth and brother Victor.

A memorial to spread the ashes on the family farm will happen at a later date.
